If you are just back from a summer camp or have a graduation night, high chances that you will be bothered by the sock tan on your leg and feet. Now normally it might not be something that’ll overtly be a botheration; however, if the difference is too huge, you cannot wear dress and the right footwear to match with it.

Here are few ways to get rid of sock tan.

1. Exfoliate The Tanned Part In Order to Match

If the tan is not too much and the difference is not huge then firstly try to get rid of the excess tan on your legs. Exfoliate your legs to remove the dead skin cells and upper layer of the tanned skin. You can either buy it from the market or make one at your home. If you wish to make it at your home then mix ½ cup of baking soda with ¼ cup of warm water. Make sure that you mix well so that lumps are not formed and the texture of the mixture should be like a paste. Apply this paste on your legs leaving the socks area and scrub the tanned area using pumice stone so that the dead skin cells are removed. Once you have scrubbed the area enough, wash your legs with warm water.

2. Soak Your Feet In Milk

If there is still significant difference in between the two areas, soak your feet in milk. This can be quite messy and smelly but milk helps in removing the tan. As the area under your socks is not tanned, it will blend the tanned area with the socks area. Add few drops of honey and Aloe Vera juice to milk in order to expedite the process. Keep your feet soaked into the milk for about 20-30 minutes and then rinse it with cold running water.

3. Sunless Tanner

There are lot of brands, which sell sunless tanner these days but make sure that you buy the right brand that suits your skin tone and your skin type. Apply this sunless tanner on the area that is not tanned and apply some portion on the tanned area, as this will help in blending the skin into one color. Leave it to dry and see if the area has blended well with the tanned area. If there is still some difference then apply again. However, there is one flip side to it, as you can only know the results once the cream has dried off completely. If the area under your skin has tanned more than required then blend the skin by using a scrub to exfoliate the extra tanned part of your skin.

4. Expose Your Feet In The Sun

You might look odd for a few days but it will surely solve the problem for you. Avoid wearing shoes or boots for a few days. Wear flip-flops and expose the feet to the sun as much as possible. If you have access to a beach somewhere, then head out and apply a tanner on your feet before you expose the feet to the sun. Moreover, apply sun block cream on the already tanned part to blend the two areas. Another way is to keep the tanned area covered depending on the new area, which has to be tanned. However, be careful as you may end up burning your feet. If the riverbed allows you, walk on the sand without any footwear for few hours.

5. Gradual Tanning

If you are apprehensive about the unexpected results of tanner creams, then you can opt for the process of gradual tanning. Avoid wearing shoes or boots that cover your feet for a few days especially when you head out in the sun. Moreover, avoid wearing shorts or skirts that can further tan you legs making the difference even more significant. Once you start to see that the gap is closing, go for a nice sunbath and tan your entire legs along with the feet. This should blend the two areas and remove any difference.

6. Cover Up With Cosmetics

If you do not have time to match the two different skin tones then you might take help of some cosmetics. It may seem absurd but cosmetic treatments like applying foundation and concealer can help in blending the two different skin tones. Apply first coat of foundation on the tanned area and once the difference is minimal, apply another coat on your entire legs including your feet in order to blend the two different skin tones and bring uniformity. Concealer is a liquid that helps in matching different skin tones and it comes in different colors depending on your skin tone and skin type.

7. Spray Tanning

If nothing else works for you and you do not have time then you might need to take help of a professional. Visit a local tanning shop and they can suggest the right treatment in which they spray on the area that needs to be tanned. Sometimes the job of removing sock tan is best left to professionals as they can suggest the right intensity of tanning, which will help in blending the two skin tones.
