Have you noticed how some people (more common in women) have this uneven skin tone? Well, in case you have and you’re wondering about it, here’s what you need to know. Uneven skin tone is primarily caused by a condition called hyper pigmentation. It is a common problem related to aging but it is aggravated due to many other reasons. One of the main causes of hyper pigmentation is UV rays from the sun. Other causes of uneven skin tone may be pregnancy, aging, hormonal imbalance and excess sebum causing acne and scars. Some women may get uneven skin tone due to contraceptive pills. Here are some of the ways to treat uneven skin tone.

deal with uneven skin tone

Keep Yourself Hydrated

Water is the medium through which the nutrients travels in your body and is absorbed by the cells. It is also acts as a medium through which the toxins from the cells are released and flushed out of the body. You may not realize the importance of water and you may have taken it for granted but keeping yourself hydrated does not only keep your vital organs healthy but it is also responsible to rejuvenate your skin cells which helps in almost all skin related problems including hyper pigmentation. An average adult must drink about 3-4 liters of water everyday.

Apply Proper Sunscreen

One of the main caused of hyper pigmentation that causes uneven skin tone is ultra violet radiation from the sun. It is important to apply the right sunscreen for yourself depending on your skin tone, regional climate where you live and the exposure to sun. If you are just heading out for a few minutes then applying sunscreen lotion of 15 SPF may be enough but if you are heading out for a sport activity then you might need to increase the intensity to 30 SPF or even more.

Exfoliate Your Skin Regularly

Dead skin cells may also lead to uneven skin tone especially when it is mixed with sebum oil on your face. It clogs the pores of your skin and thus does not allow it to breathe. Exfoliate your face regularly to remove the dead skin cells and open the pores of your skin. You can either buy a chemical based scrub from the market or make a natural based scrub by mixing honey and lime juice. Scrub your face gently for about 15 minutes with the mixture and then wash it with lukewarm water.

It May Be Due to Pregnancy

Some women may experience uneven skin tone during pregnancy due to hormonal imbalances. If you are experiencing uneven skin tone during pregnancy then you can visit a doctor for the right medications. Sometimes it may be best to leave it at that as the problem goes away naturally after delivery.

Facemasks And Bleaching

You can go to an aesthetician and apply a face mask or get bleaching treatment, as it helps in not only bringing uniformity in the skin but it also opens the pores of your skin. You can also make face mask at home by mixing banana and honey. Make a thick paste and apply it on your face leaving the area around your eyes. Leave it for about 15 minutes until the paste dries and wash your face with lukewarm water.

Salicylic Acid Or Glycolic Acid Based Gels

Gels that contain salicylic acid or glycolic acids help in treating the problem of hyper pigmentation. Salicylic acid or glycolic acid based gels help in treating uneven skin tone due to acne scarring or wrinkles. However, you might be allergic to these gels and thus do a spot test before you apply the gels on your face.

Moisturize Your Skin

Use the right moisturizer for your skin type. If you have two types of skin, use an all type skin moisturizer. Many people have uneven skin tone because they are using oil free moisturizer for dry skin type. Understand your skin type and then buy the right moisturizer for your skin tone.

Reduce Sebum Production

One of the main causes of hyper pigmentation is excessive sebum production. Your skin has sebaceous glands and the intensity of these sebaceous glands is more around your nose, chin and forehead. Sebaceous glands are responsible for secreting sebum, which keeps your skin lubricated. However, in some people the sebum production is excessive due to improper diet, stress, hormonal imbalances or other reasons. When this excess sebum is mixed with dead skin cells, it clogs the pores of your skin giving you an uneven skin tone. Reduce sebum production by washing your face regularly, increasing the intake of vitamin A, eating oil free food and reducing stress.

Use Cosmetics For Quick Fix

Concealer and foundation helps in evening out the skin tone. Concealer is a liquid that hides the dark spots on your skin and it comes in various colors ranging from natural skin color to tan. It reduces the black spots around the acne and scars giving you a uniformed skin tone. Foundation is necessary in any women’s make up kit. It comes in many forms like powder, cream and even sprays.
