How to Get Rid of Acne Marks

March 18, 2012 by

A severe case of acne can result in lifelong embarrassment and frustration if you are not extra careful with your skin. Because it mostly affects the skin of your face, it can spoil your good looks and make you unattractive for life. In today’s health and beauty conscious world, being unattractive can result in your losing out on the fun and opportunities that can take you to places.

Besides being itchy, painful and ugly, what is more worrying about acne is that it can leave marks and scars on the skin even after it has been healed. Acne marks and scars are different in that the former is the initial stage and can be quite easily removed while the latter is the advanced stage and are very hard to get rid of. But there is really no reason to be disheartened as you can avoid those by being careful. The first step to get rid of acne marks is to avoid having them at all. Here are a few preventive measures you can take on a daily basis:

    • Washing your face with an up and down or left to right motion can cause acne marks. To avoid this wash your face with a gentle circular motion.
    • Do not scrub your skin as the friction can create new marks and turn old marks into scars. Always wash you face with a gentle motion.
    • Do not wash your face with any soap or face wash containing harsh chemicals as these can aggravate the acne and increase the chances of marks.
    • Do not pick your skin or pluck the acne as doing so is a surefire way to make a scar on your skin. Many people are too impatient with medicine and other remedies and end up damaging their skin by picking.

  • Eat the the food that contain the ingredients that are known to to prevent and fight acne. Acne-fighting ingredients include whole grains, fiber, green tea, omega-3 oils, antioxidants, zinc and selenium.
  • Drink lots of water to hydrate the cells and flush out the anti-toxins. Many teenagers and young adults do not have enough liquid and end of having a face scarred with acne.

If you already have acne marks on your skin, your goals must be to remove the marks and not to let them turn into scars. This can be done using moisturizers and skin ointments that are safe and proven to work. You must also eat foods that contain vitamins that help skin to re-grow so that the marks will quickly be replaced with new healthy skin. The vitamins that are good for the skin are C, E, A, B-12 and K. Another way to remove the marks is to apply natural products like honey, milk, garlic an lemon. These are known not only to clear the pores but also help repair damaged skin. An acne mark or scar is, after all, damaged skin.

How do you Get Rid of Love Handles Fast for Teenage Girls

March 16, 2012 by

Teenagers these days spend more time before their laptops, iPads, cell phones and television that is healthy. And while their eyes are glued to the screen and fingers, their teeth are busy chomping all sorts of foods that add wads of fat on their body. No wonder they find themselves obese and unattractive. But if you think it’s only the teenagers who do this, then you are wrong. The grownups are as guilty as the teenagers when it comes to weight gain.

Is obesity simply the result of sheer ignorance? Or is there something more to it. One thing that is really behind the consumption of unhealthy foods is their taste. When it comes to tasty food that really excites the senses in us, healthy food comes a distant second to unhealthy food. This is why you would go for the crispy fried French fries any time of the day, with scant thought to the consequences. Another thing is the commercials that come on TV and the internet every day. How can anyone resist mouthwatering food shown being eaten by beautiful and healthy people?

Teenage girls may be more prone to love handles because they do not get the same access to sports and outdoor activities as teenage boys, while getting equal access to food. But they are also the ones who are more conscious about how much they weigh and what they look like. No wonder many overweight teenage girls spend hours in front of their mirror fretting about their looks. While it is not that easy to give up all the tasty food and start having less tasty health food, they can get rid of those love handles with a little effort at diet control and physical exercise.

The secret is losing excess fat is no secret at all. Eat healthy food, do plenty of exercise and live an active life. These are the open secrets of becoming healthy. But what are healthy foods and what are not? There are many seemingly healthy foods that are in fact unhealthy. Take fat free and diet drinks, for example. These are really not healthy because they contain sugar which, as you may know, is bad for you. In the same way energy drinks are also not good because they care full of calories that your body doesn’t need. They can also be highly addictive.

Eating out at a restaurant can be fun because of the mouthwatering foods they have on offer. But what you must remember is that they usually sacrifice the ‘healthy ingredients’ for the ‘tasty ingredients’. They are really not to blame because if they don’t give you ‘unhealthy’ food you would immediately ditch them for another restaurant. The competition between restaurants is so tough that they give you extra large potion sizes that you gobble up without giving it a second thought. In other words, the problem doesn’t lie with the restaurants, it lies with you.

Now you know the real culprit behind those nice love handles you have, you can start work on getting rid of them. The first thing is to eat restaurant food as little as you can and stick to your home food. This way you know what is going down your alimentary canal. Avoid all the foods that are listed as unhealthy. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. You may not like the latter, but that’s what you must eat. Play lots of sports like tennis that burns a lot of calories. If you don’t like that or can’t find a partner, then simply get on the treadmill or go jogging.

How To Get Rid of Gel Nails

May 25, 2011 by

The question of whether to go with gel or acrylic nails is one on the minds of many women. You may want to try gel nails then decide you don’t like them, or you might change your mind later and go for another style. Before getting gel nails, carefully consider the following.

Acrylic or Gel?

Acrylic nails can be used on the tip or the entire nail. A mixture of monomer and polymer, called liquid acrylic, is applied to your nails. The acrylic powder dries within a few minutes of being applied, and can then be filed down and smoothed to look beautiful.

There are two types of gel nails. You can choose from no light or light cured gels. With the light cured gels you get a monomer and polymer gel mixture applied to your nails, then sit with them under the UV lights to cure. No light gels are available that do not require time under the UV light, but simply dipping the nails in water or spraying them with a solution to set up the nails.

Pros and Cons

There are many pros and cons to both types of nails. Acrylic nails are very strong, and will last a long time if you take care of them. They are also easy to remove, usually by soaking in a solution. They can also be easily repaired if they do break. On the other hand, acrylic nails look fake and must be painted. They also damage the nail more than gel nails.

Gel nails look much more natural and glossy. The mixtures used for gels are odorless, and they cure in just two minutes. However, gel nails are not to be painted, and they are not as durable as acrylic. When you break a gel nail you have to see a manicurist to have it repaired or replaced.

Getting Rid of Gel Nails

There are two main ways you can get rid of your gel nails. The first way is the foil wrap method. Clean the gel nails thoroughly and buff them. Hold the remover solution under warm water for two minutes to heat it up. Soak a cotton ball or gauze pad with the solution and place it on the gel nail. Wrap it tightly with tin foil to create a seal. Do this with each nail individually. Sit for thirty minutes, and then remove the gel nail with a cuticle pusher.

The other way to remove gel nails is by the soaking method. Get a bowl designed for soaking nails and the remover solution. Place your fingers in the finger bowls and pour the solution into the wells. Let it set for fifteen to thirty minutes, then use a cuticle remover to completely remove the gel nails. After removing gel nails, you should buff your nails to a shine for best results.

How To Get Rid of Dark Elbows

May 16, 2011 by

Dark elbows are often not a pretty sight. Women in particular often cover them up because they are embarrassed to show them off.

Learning how to get rid of dark elbows for good requires some amount of knowledge. However, it also requires some amount of patience.

Causes

Usually elbows will darken because of a buildup of dead skin cells. Dirt, oil, and debris buildup could be another cause. Genetics also in some cases plays a part.

The Removal Process

Learning how to get rid of dark elbows requires some effort on your part. Using one or more home methods is recommended.

Home ingredients and methods used to treat darkened elbows are shown below (one or more of these applied daily):

  • Aloe vera-All you need is a fresh leaf of aloe that has been cracked open. You can use the gel inside this leaf over your dark skin patches. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse it off. You should do this once or twice a day.
  • Skin bleach-This is only recommended if a more natural solution does not work. You can try Ambi Fade Cream or Nadinola Extra Strength Formula or similar brand. These are said to be extremely effective.
  •  Lemon-The acid in the juice of this fruit can help remove darkened skin. The antioxidant properties in this fruit make a world of difference. Just slice a lemon in half and let each one of your elbows sit on a lemon half for 10 to 15 minutes.

Then, rinse off the remaining lemon juice and pat each elbow dry with a clean cloth. Do this one or two times every day.

  • Olive oil and sugar-These ingredients combined help moisturize and scrub the skin. Dead skin cells are removed so that new skin cells can grow. Thus, your natural color returns.
  • Coconut with lime-You can mix ½ teaspoon of lime with a teaspoon of coconut oil. Mix this together and apply it on your skin to absorb for 10 to 15 minutes. Then, wipe off the excess mixture using a paper towel.
  • Mustard oil-This is a substance that can help nourish and heal your skin. All you need to do is massage mustard oil into the affected discolored spot until the substance is absorbed. After about 10 to 15 minutes rinse off the mustard with warm water. You can do this every day.

Prevention

You can use sunscreens or moisturizers to help protect your skin and prevent darkening. Coconut oil works well for this but you can use normal body lotion.

Furthermore, not putting your elbows on the table are more than just good manners. It can actually help reduce and get rid of dark elbows.

You should also realize that if you really want to take care of this unsightly skin problem for good, regular care is needed. Meaning, you have to observe healthy skin care and moisturizing tips daily versus occasionally.

Furthermore, just using sunscreen may not be the only answer. You also need to remember to avoid the hot noonday sun as much as possible and use waterproof sunscreen when swimming.

How To Get Rid of Leg Hair

May 16, 2011 by

Attempting to get rid of leg hair can be quite the grueling process for either men or women. The most up-to-date tips can help you attain completely flawless legs.

If you want to further learn how to get rid of leg hair please keep reading. A variety of tips are shown so you can pick the ones that are most helpful in your situation.

Removal Options

Several methods are used to get rid of leg hair. Each person may prefer an entirely different method of removal than another.

Here is a more detailed description of your options of removal:

    • Shaving-This is one of the most inexpensive ways to remove hair. Of course, this is only a temporary process as it could grow back in as little time as a few days. However, there is one main advantage to shaving in that has skin exfoliate qualities.
    • Waxing-This is a procedure that involves more pain than shaving. However, the times between re-growth are fewer and farer between than if you would shave. Furthermore, after waxing the hair grows back considerably finger and thinner. The removal sessions are more infrequent than shaving because waxing ensures hair is pulled up from the roots.

  • Depilatory creams-This kind of treatment is very effective. However, it is not recommended for people who have overly sensitive skin. It is a chemical-based solution that burns the hair off your body. It is a cross between shaving and waxing. Your legs are smoother afterwards and re-growth is not as frequent as after shaving. However, this treatment is not necessary as deep and thorough as a good waxing.
  • Laser treatment-This is a more expensive option of treatment. It is usually done by a cosmetic surgery professional and involves the use of a special light which “zaps” the hair right out of your legs. It helps reach below the surface. A similar process is electrolysis which works via use of electrical current versus laser power.

Removal Issues

You may need to beware of some issues that could occur while shaving. These concerns are categorized by type of method used to get rid of hair from the body. Suggestions for improving your technique when using these methods are provided.

  • When shaving-Sometimes if you shave improperly it can cause razor burns. Usually this occurs when you use too dull of a razor or when you apply too much pressure when shaving. Just use a gentle gliding motion in varying directions but do not press too hard.

Another problem that could occur when shaving is the presence of ingrown hair. This also could be the result of using too much pressure. Furthermore, if you use an unsanitary razor it could cause a bad reaction (i.e. skin conditions resulting from bacterial infections) in or under your skin.

  • When waxing-After an intensive waxing session you may notice skin redness. This is often a result of the fast ripping of the hair from your body in various locations such as your legs, bikini area, or face.

It is hard to prevent the redness from occurring but the right skin care products can help treat this minor skin irritation. A cold compress may also be a viable treatment option in your case.

  • When using depilatory creams-Some people could be allergic to the ingredients in these removal creams. Redness, irritation, or burning could occur after use. If you notice you are reacting badly to this solution try leaving it on your skin for a little less time. Either that or discontinue use and see a doctor.
  • When undergoing laser or electrolysis treatments-This procedure can look great if done correctly, and your hair will not grow back as fast. However, it could also make your legs look very coarse or rough if not done right. Be careful who you have perform this procedure on you.

How To Get Rid of Ingrown Hairs

May 15, 2011 by

An ingrown hair is one that turns inward and is stuck under the skin. It could become irritating or painful and thus you may want to learn how to get rid of ingrown hairs.

Origin

Ingrown hairs occur when hair gets cut or broken below the skin level. Then it grows into the side of the hair follicles instead of growing outward.

The result is awful pain as well as red bumps that eventually turn into pustules. Curlier hair is at higher risk from turning in towards the skin than is straight hair.

Methods of Treatment

You can use one of two primary treatments to take care of ingrown hairs. These two corrective actions are further explained.

Please learn the difference between freeing an ingrown hair and removing an ingrown hair:

  • Free ingrown hair-This method of treatment begins when you allow the ingrown hair to continue growing. At one point it eventually frees itself. Using a daily moisturizing cream and gentle exfoliation cream can help remove any dead skin that could stop a hair from freely growing back outward.

If during the ingrown hair freeing process a pustule is formed, you can gently squeeze it. This should cause the air to pop up to the surface. After that, you can use a freshly sterilized pair of tweezers or a needle to pry out the tip of the air from under the skin’s surface.

  • Remove the ingrown hair-If you want to completely remove the air you can use a sterile needle to fish out the hair from the skin’s surface. Then you can pluck out the hair with a tweezers. You can then gently squeeze any pustule that has formed. This of course is only a temporary solution and will not necessarily stop hair from growing back in the same way.

Additional Treatment Methods

You could also consider a more permanent removal method. Laser treatment is one that has often been used to remove ingrown hair. It involves the zapping of hair out from the root. The result is lesser chance of that same hair growing back in the future.

Electrolysis is another more permanent hair removal option. This works in a similar way as does laser hair removal. However, electrolysis involves the use of an electrical current versus a light beam for zapping the ingrown hair away.

Prevention Guide

If in the future you do not want to struggle with removing potentially painful ingrown hairs, you could use preventative action. For instance, you can use a skin moisturizer after bathing or you can use a moisturizing cream or gel while shaving.

You can also use a gentle exfoliation cleanser to remove deal skin cells. This will further stop hair from growing inward.

Furthermore, you might want to consider waxing instead of shaving. However, if you choose to shave prep your skin well beforehand.

One preparation idea would be to wet a towel tap water that is heated as hot as possible. Then, apply the wet towel to your skin a few minutes before you shave. This helps soften your skin and open your skin pores so your hair stands up straighter.

How To Get Rid of Blemishes

May 15, 2011 by

A blemish is a spot on your face or body that you no longer want there. Whether it is a spot, wrinkle, discoloration, pimple, or scar you just do not want it there. The information you see below would be mostly concerning the acne-related blemishes.

More Info: Types of Acne

Common types of acne-related blemishes include blackheads, whiteheads, and scars. The scars are from pimples or other acne formations that maybe have scabbed over.

Usually these kinds of skin problems result from bacterial buildup. More specifically a pathogen known as propionibacterium infiltrates skin pores, especially on the face. Then, especially when proper hygiene and proper dieting is not observed, a pimple forms.

However, the formation of acne blemishes does not start with the presence of bacteria in the pores. Rather, it begins with the presence of a hormone that triggers excess oil production, which then causes the inflammation and proliferation when a person’s face is not properly treated or cared for.

Care Tips

You can get rid of blemishes of the acne category using a variety of home care tips. You could also try a prescription treatment. Some treatments are administered topically while others are taken orally.

Here are some of the most useful care tips for people who want to eliminate acne:

  • Disinfect your skin. This can be done using one of the many kinds of safer skin cleansing products. For instance, you could try an astringent cleaner that unclogs pores by way of the benzyl peroxide active ingredient (less harsh than alcohol-based products).
  • Remove excess oils. Oil production is triggered by hormones which may require the use of a facial mask treatment. The clay masks as well as egg or milk-based facial solutions seem to work the best. The object is to create or use a certain face mask recipe that causes the mask solution to sit on the face until it stiffens. Then, when it dries the user pulls the mask off.
  • Remove makeup daily. The best time to do this is at night. You can use a clean, fresh washcloth every time you want to remove makeup. This can help prevent both bacteria and fungal buildup that could cause infection.

When removing makeup it is best to use a cotton cloth. A washcloth is not recommended for this purpose because it could strip away some of your skin’s natural elasticity.

  • Scrub your body/face gently. You can use one of many different homemade or store-bought natural exfoliation or microdermabrasion solutions. Finding a remedy that has beta hydroxyl acid (BHA) present in it at no more than 2% concentration is beneficial.

A medicinal solution that also has alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) present in it at no more than 8% concentration in it would also help. However, it helps to have a naturally abrasive agent and other moisturizing ingredient present in it. For example, you could find an exfoliate scrub that has crushed almonds, sugar, honey, oats, oil (i.e. almond or avocado oil), baking soda, or salt in it.

The most important step about scrubbing is that you have to do this process gently. Do not use too much pressure on your skin or redness, irritation, or other discomfort could occur. Rubbing too hard especially on your face could also strip away your skin’s natural protective seal.

How To Get Rid of Blackheads

May 14, 2011 by

Removing blackheads sometimes is a very challenging aspect of maintaining healthy skin. There is really no easy way to take care of this problem.

However, removal of these skin blemishes is not entirely impossible. It involves proper identification and appropriate treatment.

Appearance

A blackhead is otherwise known as an open come done. You can recognize this skin blemish by its indentations that look like tiny plugs. The blackheads usually accompany oily skin versus a whitehead which appears on oily or dry skin.

Causes

Usually the main cause of blackhead formations is excess oil accumulated that clogs skin pores. This clogging usually happens when misshaped or impaired skin pores and dead skin cells block skin cells.

The oil presence in these faulty pores is exposed to oxygen and a reaction occurs. The result is the formation of a blackhead.

The increased oil production that leads to formation of blackheads takes place for one or more reasons:

  • Increase in androgens in males
  • Use of the wrong kinds of skin care products and cosmetics
  • Usage or exposure to toxic chemicals and harmful skin care ingredients

Blackhead Prevention

Several actions can be taken to help prevent blackhead formation. The use of proper cleansers and appropriate medications does wonders.

Preventative blackhead tips are shown below:

  • Avoid using skin care products that are too greasy, thick, or creamy.
  • Use as gentle of acne cleaner as possible. It should be as water soluble as possible.
  • Using bar soap is not recommended because it can leave behind pore-clotting residue.
  • Avoid usage of excessive moisturizing creams.
  • Use a regular exfoliation routine that has a 1% to 2% BHA, Salicylic Acid, or up to 8% Alpha hydroxyl acid active ingredient in it.
  • Use the appropriate retinoid (form of Vitamin A) as recommended by dermatologists.
  • Find out which hormone blockers or low-dose birth control pills can decrease levels of androgens (male hormones).

Blackhead Removal Guide

One of the most common ways to get rid of blackheads is to squeeze them. However, there are other ways of doing so are likely to be more effective.

One sample blackhead removal guide:

  1. You can use a mild scrub to get rid of any dead cells in order to expose the blackhead.
  2. Try not to use too much pressure during the scrubbing process so you do not strip your face dry.
  3. After gently scrubbing your face using circular messaging motions, pat your face dry instead of wiping it.
  4. You can prepare a warm compress using a warm towel placed on your face for 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. After applying the warm compress let your face dry.
  6. Place a piece of tissue on each fingertip.
  7. Use your tissue-covered fingers to apply even pressure on both sides of the blackhead by pushing down and then up and around the blemish.

Final Word about Above Procedure-You should only attempt this process once or twice. If the blackhead does not pop you may bruise the skin. In the process you can make the blackhead wore and thus scarring can develop.

How To Get Rid of Hair Loss

May 14, 2011 by

Children and teenagers as well as older people are often affected by hair loss. This condition is often genetic but often is caused by other factors.

Detailed Cause Info

Hair loss sometimes is hereditary, coming from either the mother or father’s generation. Premature baldness at an early age also sometimes is genetic, such as people balding when they are a teenager.

However genetics is not the only cause of balding. Other reasons for balding are explained below:

  • Chemical use-Too many of the wrong dyes, sprays, gels, and other styling products can cause excessive hair loss (over the normal 10% that everyone experiences). If you dye your hair more than once every six to eight weeks that could be one reason you are now showing more scalp.
  • Cancer treatments-Chemotherapy patients are the largest group of cancer patients who seem to have balding problems. Some people undergoing such treatments may even lose all hair.
  •  Iron deficiency-Anemia is another common cause of balding. This lack of iron and decreased production of red blood cells can also lead to more serious health problems. That is why you are advised to each high-iron foods if you are iron deficient. Examples of such include the following: kidney, fish, liver, beef (lean varieties), oat bran, wheat bran, or anchovies.
  • Hormonal changes-In women, hormonal imbalances occur during pregnancy and menopause stages. For men, increased hair loss is a result of dihydroxy testosterone production that stunts the natural re-growth cycle.
  • Stress-This stress could result from a psychological problem or emotional distress. It could also be a side-effect of not getting enough sleep or overloading yourself with too much work. Regardless of the reason for the stress, it can cause hair loss.

The above is not a complete list of reasons why people lose hair. However, it covers all the top reasons for such a problem.

Getting Rid of Hair Loss

A variety of hair loss treatments can be used. It is your choice of what kind you prefer but you should know that numerous options for treatment are provided for you.

Listed below are some common hair loss treatments:

  • Home herbal medicines-Some solutions are made especially for women while others are made especially for men. Usually the ingredient list includes nutrients that help enrich the scalp and follicles. For instance, the popular Provillus product (male version) has in it Vitamin B6, Biotin, Magnesium, Zinc, Saw Palmetto, and an herbal proprietary blend. It also has in it the active ingredient Minoxidil that has been patented for re-growth use
  • Scalp massages-This will help stimulate your scalp and encourages increased circulation. This improved blood flow can really help your hair grow better and thus baldness can be prevented. Several studies have been done on men and the connection between improved blood circulation and improved regeneration process.
  • Prevention foods-High-protein foods with fatty acid qualities such as soy, fish, canola oil, avocados, and walnuts can really combat increased bareness on top of your head. Any foods that have Omega 3 fatty acids can keep the scalp conditioned in order to prevent baldness. These kinds of foods also help fight against inflammation.
