Using Seville oranges adds a level of bitterness while adding blood oranges make it tart. It is advisable that you use Orange vinaigrette on the same day it has been prepared.

What You Will Require

To make standard orange vinaigrette you will require the following ingredients:

  • Cheesecloth
  • Kosher salt
  • Fine-mesh sieve
  • Oil
  • Shallots and garlic

You may also use Vinegar and Fresh herbs, but those are not mandatory ingredients.

How To Make

  • At first, you will have to squeeze the oranges to get the juice. Strain the juice with the fine-mesh sieve and cheesecloth. Then, pour the juice in mixing bowl or a blender. This will comprise of ¼th of the vinaigrette.
  • Next, add thrice the amount of oil to the orange juice. The oil used can have an effect on the end product and so pick with caution. A lot of people opt for standard salad oil. However, if you do not have that, it makes sense to opt for oil that lacks a strong flavour. Examples are sunflower or canola oil. For getting a strong flavour in the vinaigrette, use basil or walnut oil. You may also try Extra-virgin olive oil for this purpose.

  • You may also use some secondary flavouring ingredients. Some people use pungent agents such as minced garlic and shallots. These can lend the vinaigrette an exotic and aromatic flavour. You can think of, using these ingredients when you make a special salad with exquisite fruits and produce.
  • When you are satisfied with the taste and flavour of the Orange vinaigrette it is time to store it. You may store it in a glass bottle or jar and refrigerate it till you need the mixture for use. You should stir it a little before using with salads.
