Obesity is the “IT” condition. It is the root cause of various health conditions. And, if you are trying to getting pregnant, then obesity is something that you should be worried about. Being obese before pregnant not only lowers the chances of conception, but also proves to be a hurdle for a smooth pregnancy.
According to a research, if the BMI is above the acceptable limits, the chances of conception lowers by 10%. According to a study conducted at the Michigan State University, women who had a BMI of more than 40 had 35% less chances of becoming a mother.
While the numbers are really scary, it does not imply that you will not be able to enjoy motherhood. It’s just that the process could be a little tougher and more demanding. So, what can you do? Read on!
1. Try To Lose The Excess Flab
Lose weight. Yes, even if the weight loss is marginal, you should attempt it as it increases the chances of conception. However, crash diets and other such shortcut techniques are not advisable as they could have negative impacts on your fertility levels. Aim for a 5 kg loss at least as it could improve the fertility levels to a great extent.
2. Get Your Cycles Back On Track
Obesity often disrupts the menstrual cycle. There are very few obese women who are lucky to have regular menstrual cycles. If you are below 30 and have a regular cycle, then wait for one year. Keep your ovulation levels under check with the help of kits and time your intercourse in such a way that you increase the chances of getting pregnant. Studies reveal that most of the women are highly fertile during 15th to 18th day of the cycle.
But, if you cycles are going wary, then visit the gynecologist and avail the treatment. Undergo the tests suggested and prepare yourself.
3. Take Help
If you have been trying to get pregnant for the last one year and have been unsuccessful, then it is the time for diagnosis now. Visit the doctor to identify the obstacles and rule out any complications. You might have to undergo a test to check if you are suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome, which is widely prevalent among obese women. Women who have PCOS do not have proper ovulation, which is very essential for getting pregnant. If you have insulin resistance, that again is a characteristic feature of PCOS, you might have to undergo medication for the same.
4. Practice Yoga
Yoga helps in improving the fertility levels through a series of asanas and breathing techniques. It promotes detoxification, aids in weight loss, and regulates your menstrual cycle. Find a good teacher who could give you personal coaching to meet your requirements.
5. Keep Stress Away
There is a specific time for everything to happen. Stressing over not getting pregnant is not going to help you. Practice meditations and other stress easing techniques to ensure that you are crafting a positive path towards improving the fertility levels. Eat sensibly and healthily. Try some aromatherapy to keep you calm and relaxed.[ Read: How To Reduce Stress During Pregnancy ]
