No one would like to be compared to a fruit. Terms of endearment maybe but not in regards to body shape. But knowing and accepting that you look like a pear is good. At least then, you can do something about it.
Body Categories

  • Pear shaped: this category is characterized by narrow shoulders, a small waist and wide lower body.
  • Apple shaped: most of the fat is around the waist area.
  • H frame: everything is even, shoulders, hips and no waist.
  • Hourglass frame: every woman hopes they could fall in this category. Everything is proportional. Perfect size hips and a small waist.

What Causes Pear Shaped Bodies?

Genetics: What mostly determine our body shapes are our genes. How your parents look will be passed on to you. There is not much you can do about your genetics but there are things you can do to look good.

Hormones: estrogen, testosterone and progesterone will sometimes be out of balance in our bodies. These hormones are important in determining where most of the fat will be. It can either be on our hips, thighs or the stomach area to give those dreaded ‘love handles’.

Your doctor can give you a look through to determine if your fat is brought about by hormonal imbalance.

Diet: this plays a very important role in how we look. A diet rich in nutrients will mean a better well being, good health and a great physique. Junk food, processed foods and foods with no nutrients will deposit fats where you do not want it.

How Do You Move From Pear To The Much Coveted Hourglass?

The beauty about our bodies is that you can work towards changing them. There are things you can do to change your physique.

Diet: You can train as much as you want but you will not achieve anything if you keep eating a low nutrient diet. Soda, candy bars, processed foods and any other junk foods are not good for you. These kinds of foods contain sugar, fat and chemicals that are not healthy for your body. You need a nutrient rich diet.

Dressing: while on your way to achieving the coveted shape by exercising and eating the right diet, dress for your shape. Wear colors that will not emphasize your current body shape. Try dark colors for your bottoms, but keep it single colors. While your tops, go for prints and lighter colors. Dark colors on bottoms will give an illusion of narrow hips.

Cardio: Do cardiovascular exercises, they are effective in burning calories. It will also help you in losing fat. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) will give the benefits you want. It can be done for 25 to 45 minutes for a period of 3 to 4 weeks.

You can find cardio machines like the stair stepper that work on your thighs and buttocks. These are the main culprits of fat deposits. But any form of cardio is good for your body.
