The presence of a skin infection is often a definite sign that infectious bacteria have invaded your skin. Not just bacteria, but fungi and viruses also can cause problems for you. You should beware.

Types of Infections

Several varieties of diseases can attack your body. How they invade your system is a complex concept, but really it is just that your body is somehow made vulnerable. You are most vulnerable if you already have health problems and you have a poor immune system.

Fungal infections- This category of skin problems includes ringworms, jock itch, athlete’s foot, and yeast infection. Finger and toenail infections also fall under this category, and they all are brought on by exposure to warm, moist conditions.

This condition is usually characterized by itching, soreness, rash, or redness. It ca be uncomfortable, but not necessarily painful. These problems could cause a person to feel self-conscious if they are visible.

Bacterial infections– Examples of such include boils, cystic acne, cellutis, impetigo and folliculitis. They typically feed off of food that is left out at room temperature for too long of a time. Bacteria builds up generally in time. Usually bacterial skin problems are uncomfortable and/or unattractive in appearance but could be painful.

Viral infections– There is a variety of reasons why viral skin conditions exist. These infections feed off of a host, and cannot live and grow independently without the host. They grow by “borrowing” the cells of the human body so they can spread.

Viruses cause a variety of symptoms. Redness, soreness, itching, and uncomfortable soreness name a few.

Treatments

The application of treatments may vary. Antibiotic treatments and herbal solutions as well as natural astringent cleaners often help clear away popular bacterial infections. The condition of the skin often is improved when the source of the problem is eliminated.

The same is true of fungal infections, which usually requires the use of either natural or over-the-counter medications, or prescription drugs. Other options include freezing or surgery in the most extreme cases such as for warts.

Warts might require minor home treatments but these also might one of a variety of medical solutions, such as freezing or surgery. You should always talk to your doctor to make sure you are not coming down with a serious, chronic condition.

You should also note that some bacterial, fungal, and viral diseases are acute and immediately treatable. However, others might not disappear so readily.

Some Instructions

Whatever treatment method you use, make sure you follow instructions given to you by your doctor and/or presented on your medicine or supplement label. This is the only way to ensure that you are treated properly for whatever condition you are suffering.

Following proper instruction will also help prevent worsening of the condition. More importantly, it can prevent harmful medicinal and disease reactions and counter indications.

Never use a treatment with which you are not familiar until you talk to your doctor. This point cannot be stressed enough when attempting to get rid of a skin infection. Just be careful and do not do anything foolish while getting treated.
