Chilblains is probably not a very common word in English to use for a condition also known as perniosis. Chilblains is the term for when pernio and plain takes place in your feet.

What is it?

It is a pain that is caused by excess exposure to cold and humidity. This often happens in your hands, feet, and earlobes and is often mistaken for frostbite or trench foot.

Another name for this condition is acral ulcers, which is another name attributed to this condition because it affects the extremities-outermost portions of our body.

Who Experiences This?

It is said that older adults and seniors experience this problem. However, it can also occur in younger people.

Symptoms

Usually this condition is characterized by redness, itching, blisters, and inflammation. Sometimes this problem seems to occur for no apparent reason, and independent of any other disease.

However, it could also be the result of another more serious medical condition. In any case, this issue should be addressed as soon as it takes place.

How to Get Rid of It

Chilblains can be treated. You can even reduce or eliminate them at home. The various solutions you can use are explained below:

Avoid scratching the affected areas. This in fact is the worse thing you can do. It could cause further skin damage, such as your skin breaking open and you might infect that open wound. Furthermore, the less you scratch it the faster it goes away.

Keep the areas affected warm. Use thick gloves over your hands or wear a hat that covers your ears, for instance. Furthermore, put on some thermal socks and warm boots. The more you keep the areas warm the less chance you will of this condition taking place.

Make up a wound dressing. You can use a variety of home ingredients such as suggested by your doctor. A variety of foods, herbs, or other moisturizing agents might work. A recipe that has rosemary in it might help improve blood flow which can lessen the chance of this condition returning.

Prevention
