How To Get Rid of Seasickness

Seasickness is a form of motion sickness. It usually takes place when you have been on a boat, cruise ship, yacht, or other watercraft for awhile. It is a condition characterized by very dizzy feelings such as if a person is drunk.

Some people are seasick from the time that they set their first foot on the boat. This could be been a way partly psychological. After all, sometimes it happens even when the boat is on dry land.

A Cause for Concern

Seasickness is not necessarily a concern for people who are just riding as a passenger. However, if a person is attempting to steer a ship or other watercraft it can be just as dangerous.

In fact, it is like trying to control a ship under the influence of alcohol. Therefore, it is strongly advisable that you find a way to get rid of seasickness if you operate a water vessel.

Management of Seasickness

The first step towards dealing with seasickness is to recognize the symptoms. Signs of seasickness include excessive fatigue and lethargy as well as yawning and drowsiness. Also as mentioned earlier people might feel dizzy.

As far as management of seasickness, you are advised to address the problem as soon as you notice symptoms. You can try anti-motion sickness medications or you can take a walk out onto the deck for as long as you need.

If you are assigned to the cockpit and you get seasick you could also try an alternative technique. For instance, you can ride the waves while leaning against the cabin window.

Also you should remember to pace yourself. That is, when you need to take a break you should take a break when you need to and communicate with your co-captain and other crew.

It also helps if you plan ahead. One thing you can do is make sure you schedule times for proper meals and snacks because seasickness goes away much easier in this case. Having a full (but not too full) stomach is typically much easier navigates a ship on an empty stomach.

Also by all means you should avoid alcohol. It is highly recommended that you also eat a balanced meal, such as one with plenty of fruits and vegetables. Try not to eat dairy as this could upset your stomach.

Along with that, it is wise to keep yourself hydrated, as this can help you from experienced lethargy, weakness, drowsiness, and other symptoms. That means you should drink plenty of water and liquids rich with electrolytes.
