How To Get Rid of Viruses

There are lots of viruses and these viruses live to create more viruses except for the strains of bacteria that kill other bacteria that are more harmful. The reason behind viruses looking like they are harmful is because the cell dies due to the replication of the virus. While the way in which a virus attacks a cell depends on the type in question, the result is the same.

Once the cell is taken over, only parts for the virus are reproduced and these can be made into many whole viruses. Infections caused by viruses are the most common after the bacterial and the fungal infections.

The Treatments Available

In General:

The immune system is a big part of treating viruses. Humans have a lot of protection from viruses through their immune system, and in many cases, they are encouraged to let the immune system fight for itself. The body through this fight will become resistant to future invasions from the virus.

The Treatments Available

Because there are so many viruses, there are also many treatments. The most common viruses include the influenza, the common cold, mono, chicken pox, amongst others. Antiviral medications and vaccinations have been created to fight off the viruses that are considered to be more serious. This being said, there are ways to get rid of the more common viruses that many people experience throughout their lives.

The Common Cold

Antiviral medications won’t kill the cold but acetaminophen can help reduce the pain. The different medications used for a cold include Dayquil and Tylenol but they use acetaminophen to help with the symptoms. A child should not be given Aspirin because of the risk of Reye’s syndrome.

Antihistamines work well if the person has congestion and sinus pain. These medicines include Allegra and Benadryl amongst others. Other medicines like Sudafed can be used to clear nasal congestion or help the runny nose.

Humidifiers and expectorants can help to get rid of the cold as they clear up the phlegm and help the person to cough it up easier. As a result the lungs feel lighter and it is easier to breathe.

A person with a cold is advised to take in a lot of fluids. Sports drinks are good for keeping the body hydrated because of the sodium and potassium that helps the body to absorb the liquid.

Influenza

Prevention is the best for some cases. A flu shot can prevent this virus from happening even though it can bring on the symptoms of the flu. Also, it is important to stay away from crowds during the flu season. Stress can make the system more susceptible to such viruses so stress management is in order. Exercise can help as well.

Antiviral medications can help but it should be taken within two days of getting the virus and taken for four or five consecutive days.

The person should also consume a lot of liquids such as the sports drinks to keep the body hydrated.
