How To Get Rid of Bedbugs – How to Kill Bedbugs

Killing bedbugs is a very common topic conversation among house owners. This is a concern because a bed bug infestation can cause mild to serious health problems.

Some of the most common health problems include allergic reactions to actual blisters and bites. Therefore, some special attention is required for people who want to get rid of these infestations right away.

Preparing for Bed Bug Treatment – How to Kill Bedbugs

One of the places where bed bugs accumulate is in clutter. This is one reason why keeping a clean house is advised.

Therefore, you should pick up dirty clothing, crumpled up area rugs, or old stuffed animals from the floor. You should then clean these items thoroughly using a vacuum cleaner.

You could also shake out the dust mites in a location outside. However, while doing so, you should stand far enough away from the immediate perimeter of your house.

Once you have shaken or vacuumed all the dust from the pieces, you should then store the items in sealed plastic containers. This is the one sure way to prevent the bugs from returning.

If necessary, you may want to clean all the clothes, rugs, and/or stuffed animal in a machine washer. This will help ensure that each piece is totally cleaned, and that no bed bugs would return.

You also would want to remove wall hangings such as framed pictures, battery-operated clocks, and celebrity posters. This is one preliminary step towards proceeding towards successful and complete extermination of all bugs.

After the cleaning step is done, you should then perform the following actions:

  • Close off any windows and seal up all cracks or holes in the room with caulk or silicone.
  • Thoroughly inspect all baseboards and room corners along with the windows, as this is where you may find the most bugs. It is also where you will most likely be required to seal off all cracks or holes.
  • Examine the mattress for holes and rips. If it is damaged in any way it will need to be replaced, otherwise bed bugs will continue to reside within and lay eggs.
  • If the mattress is fine (no rips, holes, or tears) then you can proceed to the treatment steps in the next section.

Here are some steps and tips to use come time to select and use the right insecticide:

  • Seek the kind of insecticide that is safe for use on beds.
  • If in doubt about the safety of a particular pesticide read the package label.
  • It may be necessary to choose one of each of two types of insecticides. Both dust and aerosol forms are found today.
  • Use of both a dust or aerosol treatment can help you administer as thorough of a treatment as possible.
  • Use the aerosol treatment (i.e. underneath the bed or in corners) in the tighter spots where the dust treatment cannot reach.
  • Make sure you not only treat the bed but that you also treat the entire room. Pay special attention to darker corners and do not forget to put solution on the baseboards or around furniture.
  • Repeat treatment three times with a space of a week apart between treatments.

Alternative Treatments

A safer alternative to the above chemical treatment steps would be to use an organic solution. You could also try a heat treatment, or suffocation procedures. Just be careful and follow all instructions given to you so you can use these extermination methods safely.
