Crab grass grows very rapidly sometimes. It is found in lawns and gardens and usually grows in hot and dry conditions. It grows once a year, and often spreads throughout your yard.

It can become a nuisance to you, as it sometimes grows wildly. It spreads quickly so you may want to learn how to take care of the problem.

Appearance

Crab grass is a weed that is green, but a slightly different shade than normal grass. It stands out because it is a small plant with clusters of leaves. The patches of crab grass can range from very small to very large.

Sometimes a crab grass patch turns brown. When this happens it totally destroys the look of your lawn and garden. Knowing this could happen, people often seek a way to get rid of crab grass in order to keep up their lawn.

The Elimination Process

There are many ways of eliminating crab grass. You can also stop it from appearing in your yard in the future. A variety of tips regarding this issue are shown below.

Maintain your lawn regularly. One thing you can do is make sure your normal grass is thick enough. If not, maybe you can plant some grass seeds to fill in the spaces, and thus prevent further advancement of the crab grass.

Remove it as soon as possible. The earlier you do this the better, such as when you see the first patch grow in your yard. It is best to dig it out from the root completely before it begins to flower and spread seeds.

Cultivate your lawn. This may include some digging and hoeing to make sure all the roots of the crab grass are removed. You can also add some fertilizer to help make any grass seeds you may have planted grow faster.

Apply an herbicide. If you cannot seem to get rid of the problem any other way, applying a plant killer may do the trick. Use this method though sparingly as most herbicides have toxic chemicals in them that can be dangerous to pets and children.
