How To Get Rid of Noisy Neighbors

By Subodh / July 10, 2010

Noisy neighbours are never in short supply whether it’s loud music or arguments everyday they are downright irritating. The last thing you want is to come home and relax and have your quiet invaded by your neighbours. If you find yourself in this situation you will be happy to know that there are a few ways to get rid of them.

Find out who is creating the noise

The noise doesn’t generate itself and it has to be made somewhere. Some noises are understandable while others are just unnecessary. If it is the cry of a baby or music from a party next door before dark then these you can live with because they are a natural part of life. It is when the music and parties go on well into the night that it becomes a pain. Once it starts to interfere with your quiet time then you should do something about it.

When should you put up with it?

When it comes to noisy neighbours there are a few occasions where you can just put up with it. If the neighbours party is a once off affair and they won’t be playing loud music for the rest of the year then you can let it slide. If they are moving house within a short while then there is no point in confronting them. If you have a good relationship with your neighbours and you know them well enough to know there is a good reason for the temporary noise then just ignore it.

Be polite

There are few things worse than an angry neighbour pitching up complaining about noise. Most of the time your neighbours won’t even realise just how loud they are. You should politely go and speak to them. In this way nobody gets upset and you can come to some sort of arrangement. Explain to them that your sleep is being disrupted and more often than not they will understand.

Get the law on your side

Every area has different laws as far as noise making is concerned. Always be aware of this and bring it to your neighbour’s attention. If they are continuously playing loud music and you have tried repeatedly to address this then you are well within your rights to file a complaint. Hopefully it will never have to come to this but if they are really annoying you then this is the next step to take.
