How To Get Rid of Carpenter Ants

You might have heard about carpenter ants. They are the ones which destroy your house silently without you noticing it. They eat away your furniture made up of wood and risk your life if you do not get rid of them as soon as possible. They completely damage your house. They are bigger than normal ants and they love to live in damp and mist places. You will find their colonies living in tree trunks and in wooden frame of your houses. However if you want to get rid of them, here are certain ways which will help you to do so:

Look for sawdust trails: to get rid of these ants you will first have to search for their habitats. Sawdust trails will help you to find it. As these ants often live in wood, they leave behind sawdust trails. Make note of all the locations where you find this trails.

Listen for crunching noises: crunching noises of ants is another way which will help you to find their nests. If you cannot hear them then make use of a sweet bait. But you need to be very patient to do this as ants do not easily catch the scent of the bait if placed too far from their nests.

Care for your lawn: design your lawn in such way that they do not attract carpenter ants towards it. You can do this by removing dead stumps and piles of woods away from your house and keeping your lawn trimmed. Also along with this clear your tree branches, bushes and other plants and see that they are not in touch with your house. This will keep the ants away from your house.

Try boric acid: Boric acid is very useful in killing many insects. It is a useful insecticide. Not only kills almost all kinds of insects but it is also safe to use as it causes no harm to your pet or to you. All you need to do is to take some warm water and pour some boric acid in it. Also put some sugar in it so that it attracts the ants. You can also make use of cotton bales and keep them near the ant’s nests so that suck on it.

Try white gravel: Apply white gravel around your house to keep these carpenter ants away from your house. White gravel is used as a natural barrier against the ants. They will find it very difficult to enter your house if they first will have to crawl this gravel.
