When your skin is itching because of Eczema the best thing you can do is take antihistamines to stop the itch. Anti inflammation creams and ointments can also help to stop the itch of this skin condition. Try not to scratch or rub at your skin as these actions serve to make the matter worse not better.

If you have severe itching associated with your eczema you can talk to your doctor about hydrocortisone creams that can help to alleviate the itch. Your doctor will prescribe the correct dosage of these creams for your condition. If the cream you have is not working tell the doctor so they can give you a stronger dose.

Precautions when bathing

Bathing your skin in water is necessary to provide hydration for your skin but there are a few things you should remember about bathing.

  • Tub baths are better than long showers
  • The water temperature should be lukewarm not too hot and not too cold
  • Use the mildest soaps possible when you have to apply soap
  • Do not use heavily perfumed products
  • Do not take bubble baths
  • Add bath oils that have emollients in them to your water
  • After your bath pat your skin with a towel never rub the towel over your skin
