How To Get Rid of Mosquitoes

There are some places that are known for incredible sites and Austin, Texas, is one of those places. At the Congress Avenue Bridge, at sundown, other than in the winter months, you can have the opportunity to see a large number of bats rush out to eat the mosquitoes. They have been employed to get rid of the pesky biting creatures and to control the illnesses that are passed along by these insects. Mosquitoes have a bad reputation for spreading things like yellow fever, dengue, dog heartworm, and many other things so the control of these creatures was and is important.

The bats might seem extreme but that is one sure way to control mosquitoes in your area and that is to invite the bats over. In the case that you don’t want the bats around, you can opt to invite the birds instead. This might be a little easier. You can build some bird boxes to attract the mosquito-eating birds such as the purple martins, and watch as the mosquito population decreases.

There is another important aspect of limiting the number of mosquitoes in your area and that is finding out where they are coming from and decreasing the chance of them wanting to breed in that spot. They generally breed on damp soil or near bodies of water. Water is vital to the maturation of the egg which is why you are more likely to be bitten around these areas. If you can eliminate the bodies of water or flooded grounds in your area, you can eliminate the breeding grounds as well.

Possible Methods of Elimination

There are traps that are created specifically for mosquitoes based on the fact that they are attracted to the carbon emission of the exhalation from humans. The trap uses propane cylinders to give out the carbon dioxide and to power the generator. There is an electric zapper inside kills the mosquitoes. There are other machines aside from this one that can work as well. You can even make one yourself if you are so inclined.

Taking Away the Threat of the Bite

Aside from the above mentioned ways to get rid of the mosquitoes, you can use the following methods to control mosquitoes and the chance of being bitten.

  • Wear long-sleeve shirts and pants outside
  • Stay inside behind the screens of doors and windows in the early evening
