As unavoidable as it is for a writer to write, just that much for a writer to stumble upon a writer’s block. You think you’d be able to dodge it, but eventually it lands up right there in front of you as a huge obstacle to every idea that pops up.
If you’ve always had thoughts flow through your mind as you write with every story getting better with every thought, you are probably an awesome writer. But that is only until you slowly start to feel like you’ve run out of ideas and there is nothing more to write about. There are no new topics, no news articles, no new products worth reviewing, nothing! That’s when the writer’s block has hit you.
But there is good news! Writer’s block is a state of mind & there are ways to combat it. Read on to know how:
Check your Schedule
If your busy schedule does not give you time to write maybe you need to make a little time for yourself to nurture your gift of writing. Sometimes the block hits because of the stressed nature of a mind and maybe the relaxing the mind or exercise or a change in routine can help relieve stress allowing new ideas to flow.

Join Blogging Communities
There are loads of blogging communities online that allow a writer to overcome a writer’s block. Communities encourage writing through different mechanisms such as a contest based write up on a topic provided, weekend activities, day specific topics, discussion based topics, topics based on a point of view, etc. These topics tickle the thoughts of writers encouraging their creativity to flow.
Maintain a journal
Write about an average day in your life. Sometimes you do not need to write an abstract piece or on a topic that everyone is writing about but just an average day in your life is material enough for your readers. Begin writing about your day until you come across one thing that highlighted your day & elaborate on that situation. Before you know it, you’ll be writing yourself a story you didn’t know you were going to.
Stay Entertained
If everyday life does not seem interesting enough to write about, keep yourself entertained with movies, music, a new book, a new recipe to try or a new restaurant to eat at. Then review what you’ve experienced & write your point of view on it.
Reviews are a great way to help you voice out your opinions. Reviews help you think about your experience and what you think could have helped make that experience better or why you think it was as great as it was.
Just write about now
Write about your feelings i.e. the writer’s block. Write about what you feel as you pick up your laptop and log into your blog to begin writing or about how you feel when you pick up your journal to begin writing.
Through these tips you must know that the feeling that makes you feel like – “I’ve lost my gift” or “I am never going to write again” are all temporary. This is a period of lull but a little push will have your creative juices flow out better than they did earlier. Overcome the obstacle with baby steps – aim at small articles & make the jump slowly. Aim high but do not push yourself to set yourself up for disappointment through unreasonable goals.
All the Best! Write Well!
