It’s a great feeling to really want a house. This shouldn’t just be a practical decision, but also one that makes you excited. Think about the dream property you drew up as a kid – how would that 8 year old feel looking around this new home? And how will you feel when you have to show guests around? Proud?

You don’t just want to go ‘wow’ when you see your property though, you also want to let out a relaxed ‘ahh’ as you sit down in your reclining chair. One of the most important requirements for any property is that it be relaxing and cosy, so make sure you can actually see yourself living there and feeling at home.
Progress
One of the main reasons that we move house is so that we can feel as though we are progressing in life. Property is a mark of status, but it also represents a shift in our lifestyles and in our routine. If you move somewhere that’s smaller and cheaper than your last place then, it can feel like a step backwards and this can leave you feeling less fulfilled. Of course your home should also be practical. This means that it needs to be near to your regular commutes, it means it needs the right number of rooms and it might mean it needs off-road parking or other features. If your home is impractical, you will find it makes life much more difficult and much more stressful for you.

A property also needs to be a good financial decision and this is one of the things that will be most at the forefront of your mind when you’re exploring potential purchases. Make sure that you look at properties that are within your budget, but which are also likely to increase in value – or which you will be able to add further value to while living there.
