Hair odor is caused by smelly hair. As the name suggests, smelly hair results in an unpleasant odor which is originated from the scalp and hair. The condition usually causing smelly hair is called smelly hair syndrome. People in any age group could get affected by it. Many people think that smelly hair is the result of poor hygiene habits. But this is not necessarily true. While poor hygiene may make it worse, people who take proper care of the hygiene may still get affected. If you have oily hair, you will have higher chances of having smelly hair. This is how you can get rid of hair odor.
Use Baking Soda
Baking soda is perhaps the most commonly used item as a home remedy to get rid of hair odor. Baking soda not only reduces oil level in hair it also helps neutralize the bad odor. To use baking soda as a remedy to foul odor you will first need to mix it in water. It should be mixed in the right proportion for best results. It is advisable that you take one part of soda and three parts of water and mix them together to form a paste. Now rinse your hair first with plain water and then apply the paste to the wet hair. Once you have applied it, leave it like that for around 5 minutes. After that wash your hair again and let it dry. Repeating this method at least one in a week will help reduce the hair odor considerably.
Use Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a known remedy for many types of hair problems. It not only helps remove hair odor, it also helps in giving you shiny and strong hair. It also helps increase the pH level of your hair. To use the apple cider vinegar as the hair odor remover, you will first need to mix it with water and essential oil. Take half cup of apple cider vinegar and add it to two cups of clean water. Now pour a few drops of essential oil such as rose or lavender. Use the sprayer to spray the solution all over your hair. Leave it like that for a few minutes. After a few minutes, wash your hair with cold water. The apple cider vinegar can also be used after applying the baking soda remedy. However, make sure that you do not apply it more than two times in a week.
Use Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is not just good for your hair it is also very good for your skin. After applying lemon juice to your hair, they will smell very fresh. But its role doesn’t end at giving fragrance to your hair. It also helps make shinier and also helps reduce dandruff.
To use it as a remedy for hair odor, squeeze out the juice from two lemons and then dilute it by adding some water. Shampoo your hair first properly and then apply the juice thoroughly to your scalp and hair. After this, leave your hair like that for a few minutes. Then rinse it off thoroughly. You can apply this remedy one or two times a week. You can also mix lemon juice with yoghurt and apply it to your hair. This will help fight any fungal infections. You can also mix any essential oil with fragrance, such as rosemary.
Apply Tomato Juice
You will be surprised to know that tomato juice can also be applied to your hair to fight the bad odor. The acid component of the tomato juice will also help increase the pH level of your hair. The application is pretty simple. Extract fresh juice from tomato and apply it directly to your hair and scalp. Leave it like that for about 20 minutes and then rinse it off with water.
Use Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is quite effective in treating problems related to scalp. Since the source of the bad odor is scalp, Aloe Vera can help remove it quite effectively. It also acts as a hair conditioner, and helps reduce hair fall and dandruff. Take fresh Aloe-Vera juice and apply it on your hair after a shampoo. Leave it like that for up to 20 minutes and then rinse it off properly.
