How To Get Rid of Leftover Food

After cooking there are sure to be leftovers which just accumulate in the fridge. You end up running out of space for the more important things and eventually can’t tell the difference between what’s good and what’s not. Leftover food cannot be stored forever so you end up throwing away perfectly good food. As a result you lose loads of money at the end of the day. There are a few ways you can get rid of your leftovers.

Eat It

The easiest way to get the most out of your leftovers is to eat them. All you have to do is heat it up. Hopefully it would still look and taste good. If it seems to have lost a bit of flavor then you should add sauce or spice to make it more exciting. You can even use this opportunity to experiment and see how different food combinations work with that main ingredient. Since you won’t be serving guests this is the perfect time to test your skills.

Make Other Dishes

Sometimes leftovers can be used as ingredients in other dishes. Leftover fruit can be used in salads and smoothies, while veggies can be used in stews and casseroles. Bread can be used to make bread crumbs that you can use to make coatings for chicken or meat kebabs. Leftover meat can be cut up and added to rice to make delicious meat paella. Another great idea would be to compile a platter with all the ingredients and chances are they will all be eaten.

Baby Food

Baby food is essentially a bunch of nutrient rich ingredients that are mashed up into a puree. This can be done with a range of fruits and veggies. It is preferable to use a blender so that it is crushed properly. Always make sure you taste the puree before you feed it to your child. With fruit mixtures you will usually have to add some sugar. With veggies all the flavors together are usually good enough.

Pet Food

When it comes to food most pets will eat anything. What you can and can’t feed them will depend on what they are allowed to eat. Dogs are some of the easiest pets to please. They will happily eat meat so you can mix that with leftover bread or rice and veggies to add some nutrients. Whatever you mix up you can just top it with some yummy gravy and they will have a treat.
