Cabbage worms are extremely bothersome and can impact anything in your garden. They’re clearly known to target cabbage plants but just about anything in your garden could be targeted. There are many things that you can do in order to keep cabbage worms from being more of a burden then they have to be.
Plant the Right Items
You can start by using items near your plants to control the development of cabbage worms. These include plants like:
- Thyme
- Mint
- Rosemary
- Sage
The reason why these are useful is because they contain plenty of nectar. These will attract the worms and keep them from going too far into your garden. They will not be likely to get all the way through at that point.
The above choices are all good options to use as they can keep cabbage worms from getting into a spot. These can especially work well if you place them around the overall perimeter of your garden.
Hot Pepper Can Help
Hot pepper is useful as it will irritate cabbage worms as they try to get into your garden and take out different plants. You can add hot pepper onto your plants by mixing a few hot peppers with water and then spray it onto your plants. This can work once a week to protect your plants.
You should be certain that you avoid using too much hot pepper in you spray. If you use about a part hot pepper for every four or five parts water in your spray then it should be easy for you to stop cabbage worms. They can be relatively sensitive to what you spray and will not be likely to move too far if you use a good spray in the right manner.
Flour is a Good Solution
One good option to use is to spread a bit of flour over your plants after you are done watering them. Flour is not going to hurt your plants; in fact they will be secure as the flour will kill off cabbage worms. In addition, it will be easier for your plants to be covered against some other outside issues relating to the weather.
Prepare a Cover
It might help to add a cover to a plant for as long as needed. You might have to spend a bit of time with protecting your plant this way by allowing a cover to go over it until it is ready to be harvested. You can do this to prevent cabbage worms from getting into a garden spot and devouring individual plants.
Always Pick Them Out
It’s especially critical for you to pick out any cabbage worm that you see and dispose of them immediately if you see them. This sounds like a rudimentary process but if you spot any while treating your garden to keep them out then you should certainly waste no time and clear them out as quickly as possible. You have to do this in order to keep your garden safe.
Where Do They Come From?
The most important consideration for getting rid of cabbage worms is to take a look at where they are coming out of. You’ll have to use a few ideas in order to get these worms out of a space:
- Look to see exactly where in your garden they keep showing up. This might give you a hint as to what direction they might be coming out of.
- If you see any open holes in your yard then it will be a good idea to take them out. Be sure to use an appropriate treatment solution in that area to get rid of those pests.
- Check and see if there are any blocks or holes within any fences or other spots that you’ve got for protecting your garden. In some cases it is often easier for these pests to move through your garden if they can find perimeter spaces to move through.
If you use these ideas to keep your garden safe then you won’t be at risk of struggling with cabbage worms. These worms can be dangerous to your garden unless you use the right ideas for taking care of them before they can wreck your garden.
