How To Get Rid of Cluster Flies

As the name suggests this flies move in hundreds or thousands. They are also known as attic flies and are ½ to ¾ inch in size. Unlike other flies, these flies do not carry with them harmful disease. They do not cause any harm to human beings but still it is necessary to get rid of them. If you want the reason why, then ask one who has faced the infestation of these cluster flies.

Cluster fly looks similar to a house fly but the only difference is they are slightly larger than house flies and cluster flies also don’t buzz like them. They have got grey hair all round its abdomen.

Cluster flies are normally not found in you houses. Its only when it becomes cold outside, they seek shelter in your homes. But once it gets warmer they get out of their hiding place and again move outside. These flies do not lay their eggs in human food. Instead they prefer earthworms. A female cluster fly lays its eggs near the earthworm’s burrow. When this eggs hatch, they stay near earthworm and then convert themselves into adult flies.

The cluster flies are parasites of earthworm as its larvae can be found in the bodies of earthworm. If your house is near some area where there is large number of earthworms, then you might face the problem of cluster flies infestation. Common places where they can hide in your houses are as follows:

  • Between walls
  • Unused rooms
  • Attics
  • Garages
  • Ceiling
  • Basements

As mentioned earlier this flies move in hoards. So you can imagine them moving in hundreds and thousands.

Ways to get rid of cluster flies

Its not difficult to get rid of this flies once you find their hiding place. They are generally found in undisturbed area. You can use the following ways to get rid of them:

1. Use a vacuum cleaner

Vacuum cleaners are the best and easiest way to get rid of these flies. Vacuum cleaners can easily suck them in their containers. You just need to put your vacuum cleaner in the place where you find these flies hiding themselves. Open your vacuum bag outside your house so that these flies do not enter your home again.

2. Use insect spray

Insect sprays are useful in killing most of the pests. Mixture of laundry soap and water can act as a substitute to these. Along with these flies it may also be used to kill termites and cockroaches.

3. Call pest control agent

If you do not wish to do any of the above on your own you can always take help of a professional pest control agent to do it for you. They specialize in it so they are more capable of doing the job smoothly. And for that you need not invest into buying any equipment. They would just charge a nominal fee and you can easily get rid of them.
