One of the best things to do is keep your cool and be polite. The last thing you want is a scandal and an article in the paper ruining your restaurant’s reputation. The way you deal with customers will depend on why you want them to leave in the first place. If they are too noisy then remind them that they also need to consider and respect the other customers. If they are just sitting and not ordering anything you can inform them that the seats are for paying customers only. If they are spending too long at the tables then tell them there are other customers waiting to be seated.
Have some rules
There are many coffee shops who have been victim to loiterers that spoil the experience of other loyal customers. What you should do is put up a list of rules somewhere in the store. This doesn’t have to be a one-to-ten list of do’s and don’ts. Instead it can be a friendly reminder about courtesy and the shops’ policy. Ensure that these signs are easy visible and simple enough for anyone to get the hint. This way you can simply point to the sign should you have any issues with customers who won’t leave.
Focus on those who buy
Whether you run a restaurant or a gift store you will always have those who are just looking and those who are spending their money. Although it is only fair to focus on all the customers that enter your store, it is best to focus more on those who are actually buying something. If browsers change their mind they can always approach you for help. This means that you won’t waste time on those who don’t intend buying anything at all. Times are tough so this is one way to ensure you get the most out of your business.
