How To Get Rid of Nosy Neighbours

Everyone wants to be friends with their neighbours but at the same time privacy is a very important thing. Sometimes it is hard to draw that line when you have nosy neighbours. They seem to be there at every turn, gossiping and spreading rumours because they are bored with their own lives. There are some ways to get rid of them if you have some nosy neighbours on the other side of the fence.

Why do we get nosy neighbours?

Some neighbours are retired or rely on their spouses to work so they have all the time in the world. They can only cook and clean or watch television so much. With the rest of their free time they find it more exciting to be nosy and gossip about other people. In other cases they may just be jealous of what you have. They can’t have what you have so they find ways to sully your reputation so that you can have as little as them. Some may do it because they want to get to know you better. This is obviously the wrong way to go about it but it is definitely something to consider.

The confrontation

As much as you want to be friendly, you can’t allow your privacy to be invaded to such an extent. The easy way is just to tell them like it is and be harsh about it. This will quickly shock them straight out of fear for what you may do if they ever tried their tricks again. If you are a nice person who generally doesn’t like confrontations then this will be harder for you. Sometimes being polite goes a long way to preserving the friendship but getting your much needed space.

Create a divide

One of the reasons neighbours get to be so nosy is because they have easy access to your property and so they can easily see what you are up to. The first thing you can do is put up a fence. Before doing so just make sure it is in keeping with the building codes of your area. If fences aren’t your thing then you can plant a few trees or put up a hedge. The downside to this is that it takes more work and maintenance than a fence. The upside is you will have a very pretty property and keep your nosy neighbours at bay.
